Hunter x Hunter fans can finally rejoice as the manga returns after a nearly two-year hiatus, sparking excitement worldwide. Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter ranks among the best-selling manga series of all time, with multiple arcs often regarded as the best by fans.

We are aware of the serious health problems Yoshihiro Togashi has been dealing with for a long time, and the return of HxH has only been met with an overwhelmingly positive response. The mangaka has been consistently delivering exceptional chapters since the manga’s return, even introducing new Nen users and redefining what it means to be a strong hunter.
Regardless, Togashi gave one character an incredibly tragic fate, despite granting them one of the most unique Nen abilities, which is truly heartbreaking.
Hunter x Hunter Character with the Most Tragic Fate
With recent manga developments, Hunter x Hunter released one of its saddest and grimmest chapters ever, which left many fans eagerly anticipating the next chapter. HxH is currently in its seventh arc, the Succession War arc.

The arc centers on the fierce competition for the throne among 14 princes of the Kakin Empire aboard the cruise ship, the Black Whale. HxH 409 will be one of the most intense chapters in the Succession War seen so far, especially with the major reveal at the end of chapter 408, where Martial Law was declared.

With the manga’s return, Togashi has introduced several intriguing new characters, shifting the focus away from Gon and his friends. It also serves as a reminder to fans of the beloved characters from the anime who left a lasting impression.
The anime features several compelling characters such as Phantom Troupe, Gon, Killua, and his friends; especially the antagonists that left many viewers questioning their morality.

However, there are still a few characters introduced as highly gifted Nen users, only to end up disappointing, one of them being Riehlvelt. Introduced back in the Heavens Arena arc, Riehlvelt was shown as a formidable opponent at first.
Unlike Gon and Killua, Riehlvelt reached the 200th floor of the Heavens Arena without any knowledge of Nen. This resulted in him being “initiated” by an opponent, whose malicious aura attack left him paralyzed from the waist down.

Unfortunately, his fate was sealed from that point on, despite possessing one of the most unique Nen abilities in the series. He relied on his iconic bullwhip abilities like Thunder Snake and Song of Defense, which assisted Riehlvelt in reaching Heavens Arena’s prestigious 200th floor.

Sadly, the earlier arcs of the series try to drive home how powerful and strong Killua is a bit too much. Riehlvelt was a casualty of this, as the way Killua defeated him felt ridiculous and too unrealistic.
Hunter x Hunter Influence on Spy x Family‘s Creator
Spy x Family‘s editor, Shihei Lin, once shared the various challenges the team faced before the manga’s serialization. Surprisingly, Tatsuya Endo’s greatest challenge wasn’t his concerns about the story but rather his insecurity regarding the manga’s title.

He further reveals that Endo-sensei was concerned the title sounded too straightforward, which he believed could hinder its success and appeal to the Western audience

Despite exploring countless ideas, the mangaka ultimately settled on Spy Family as the original title, adding a twist inspired by Hunter X Hunter. He added:
At the end of it all, we just took the name we had and put it in English characters, with a cross between the words. We talked about how the title of HUNTER x HUNTER is super simple, and it how it has the same thing going on.
Spy x Family‘s popularity highlights the expanding appeal of anime, paving the way for varied genres. The first season of the Spy x Family anime premiered in April 2022, with the second season premiering in October 2023.
The film was released in Japan in December 2023, with Crunchyroll releasing the film worldwide in April 2024.
