Even Aizen and Pain Will Bow Down to the Best ‘One Piece’ Villain

Donquixote Doflamingo is a madman and a psychopath, but somehow an overly loved one. How can a character be so aware yet choose to be the embodiment of evil is the whole appeal of Doflamingo’s character in One Piece. His justice speech and his walk have been etched in fans’ minds, although there might be little room left for his perpetual manspreading, while walking and sitting alike.

But now that’s just another iconic and memorable aspect of his characterization. Whether it’s villains like Sosuke Aizen who chose to be evil for what seems like amusement, or Pain, who’s a victim of dire times, Doflamingo treads the gap between these two extremes. Inside and outside the One Piece world, his villainy is unbeatable.

Most anime villains fall into specific categories depending on their motivations; either they’re complex, outright evil, or sympathetic. For instance, Sosuke Aizen from Bleach chose to reform the world one day and never looked back. Since then, he has done everything evil possible just to mold the world as per his expectations.

Pain from Naruto Shippuden, on the other hand, is portrayed as a victim. He went through quite a lot and then turned to evil to make the world a more just place. His idea of justice is indeed warped, but he is undeniably a subject of sympathy. His actions are still not justifiable, but the anime still redeems him to a great extent.

For Doflamingo fans, sympathy, redemption, and a lack of backstory would sound like foreign concepts. After all, what do you mean a character can have a backstory that doesn’t explain their actions? Or a villain can still be sinister despite being extremely aware, perceptive, and articulate about the wrong practices of the world?

Doflamingo’s characterization in One Piece is well-written and interesting. He has the god complex of Aizen and a backstory like Pain, but he’s more nuanced than both villains. These iconic villains wouldn’t be able to help but admire how twisted Doffy truly is.

No Villain Can Match the Aura or Evil of Doflamingo in One Piece

Everything from Doffy’s walk to his backstory, highlights his entitlement. He exists like he owns the world, yet somehow, he’s also nonchalant. He could be stripped off luxury and yet he would sit and walk around like the king of the world. He doesn’t flinch when doing evil, he truly commits to the task by indulging in everything from human trafficking to slavery.

His mere presence is nerve-wracking. Whether it’s his brief scene during Punk Hazard or his bold threat as a child, the malice is apparent. Doffy is truly evil, and he had that potential since he was a young child. Contrary to this unhinged evilness, he is extremely perceptive and aware. Arguably, nobody understands the world of One Piece as practically and realistically as Doffy.

He understands justice and the feebleness of it all. His speech was iconic, his characterization is deep, but none of it justifies his heinous acts. He is a true villain, and there’s no subtext. Doffy is everything, and you can’t help but be fascinated by how a person can be so inherently evil. He makes fans curious, and his walk entrances them.

He’s everything from a bystander to the curator of chaos, he is cold but expects unconditional loyalty from his family, he can kill for them, but also kill them. What is it that you think makes Donquixote Doflamingo so popular among One Piece fans? Let us know in the comments!
