In One Piece, every Straw Hat member has their own dream that they want to fulfil, or a goal they are determined to achieve. Each character has a specific dream, and all of them come with varying levels of difficulty.
These dreams range from personal goals, such as becoming the Pirate King, to world-altering ones, like finding cures for every disease. In light of that, we have ranked all the dreams and goals of the Straw Hat pirates in One Piece from least to most difficult.
10. Usopp

Usopp’s dream is to become a great warrior of the sea. One might argue that he has already achieved his dream by being a part of the Straw Hats and by staying with them the entire journey. He cannot bear to let his nakama brave any danger without him, even when he is terrified of what is to come. The only one standing between him and his dreams is his fear, and as the story progresses, he is sure to overcome it.
9. Brook

Brook‘s dream in One Piece is to reunite with Laboon. Brook’s dream has nothing to do with being a pirate, but he instead wants to reunite with the only semblance of his past life. Laboon will always be waiting for him at the Grand Line, and though it has been decades since he met the whale, whales can live for centuries. This makes them the perfect companions for each other.
All Brook has to do is sit tight and wait for his current journey to end so he can reunite with Laboon.
8. Franky

In One Piece, Franky wants to build a ship that can travel the world. He is also another Straw Hat who has almost achieved his dream. He built the Thousand Sunny, the current ship of the Straw Hats, which has already journeyed through a significant part of the world.
All Franky has to do now is make sure that the ship is always in top shape and destroy any threats. By combining his power with the rest of the Straw Hats, he can make sure that the ship he built can travel the entire world.
7. Roronoa Zoro
Zoro needs to defeat Mihawk | Credits: Toei Animation
Out of all the Straw Hat members, Zoro might be the closest to achieving his dream. His goal is to become the greatest swordsman in the world, and he is already one of the strongest in the series. Yes, he still has to defeat Mihawk and maybe some other characters before achieving his goal, but the clarity of his target makes it an achievable goal.
6. Nami
Nami wants to map the entire world | Credits: Toei Animation
Nami’s dream in One Piece is to draw a map of the entire world. If she is able to do this, she would automatically become the greatest navigator in One Piece. Nami is already a good navigator since she can notice even the minute differences in atmospheric conditions and can foresee storms, typhoons, and other natural phenomena.
However, she can only achieve her dream by navigating the entire world. This means to be a part of a crew that is able to sail to every part of the world. Since she is already a part of the Straw Hats, it is possible that she is halfway to achieving her dream already.
5. Monkey D. Luffy
Luffy’s dream puts him at odds with too many people | Credits: Toei Animation
Luffy dreams of becoming the Pirate King and finding the legendary treasure, One Piece. However, it has become clear that his dream would lead him to upend the entire system of the world. In order to become the Pirate King, he not only has to defeat other pirates, but also the World Government itself.
There are simply too many obstacles in his path, and he has to clear a way through them before he can ever lay claim to the title that Gol D. Roger possessed. Thankfully, the design of the story itself suggests that Luffy is guaranteed to achieve his goal by the end of One Piece.
4. Vinsmoke Sanji
Sanji’s dream of seeing All Blue is almost like a fantasy | Credits: Toei Animation
Sanji’s dream in One Piece almost sounds like a fantasy. He wants to find the All Blue, a legendary sea where all four seas of the world meet, and it also contains every type of fish in the world. There is no telling if the All Blue even exists anymore, and if it does, it must be truly hard to discover, since no one has reported seeing it yet.
There is a possibility that the All Blue will come to exist once the Red Line is destroyed; however, it will take every effort by the Straw Hats and other pirates and allied forces to make it happen.
3. Nico Robin
Robin’s dream in One Piece is to find the true history of the world. She also wants to find the Rio Poneglyph, which is a record of forgotten history, specifically the Void Century. However, the true history of the world has been intentionally hidden away by the World Government and Imu, which means she has to go against them to achieve what she wants.
While she can already read Poneglyphs, acquiring the Rio Poneglyph is the hardest part. Even once she does acquire her dream, there is no telling the risks that await her.
2. Tony Tony Chopper
Chopper wants to become a doctor who is capable of curing any disease in the world. His aim is to travel the world in the hopes of accomplishing this dream. There are plenty of diseases in the world, along with artificially created ones like the SMILE side effects.
It takes vast medical knowledge and sometimes a lifetime’s worth of struggle to find a cure for any disease. Thus, finding the cure to every possible disease is a dream that will require tireless dedication. Unlike Zoro, who just has to beat the strongest opponents to become the best swordsman, Chopper can never rest since there are countless diseases in the world.
1. Jinbei
Jinbei’s dream of equality is the hardest to achieve | Credits: Toei Animation
Jinbei wants to achieve equality between humans and the fishmen. Although not stated exactly, it is still clear that he wants to stop the discrimination against fishmen. The fishmen have suffered from centuries of discrimination and had to fight to prove their worth to the world. They have been confined to underwater territories, and humans see them as freaks. This has also incited some fish-men to take advantage of the state of things to commit villainous deeds against both humans and their own people.
Achieving peace and equality is the hardest fight of them all. Although Jinbei is trying his hardest to bridge the gap between the different species, it is clear that he still has a long way to go. Just defeating the World Government can’t lead to equality, and he would have to change the minds of each and every prejudiced human and mer-folk to actually get rid of their backward mentality.
Here is a table with the dreams and goals of each Straw Hat in One Piece:
