During an interview, Yoshihiro Togashi was asked about his favorite Phantom Troupe character. He said,

“It’s Danchou (Chrollo). This gets a bit off topic, but I can’t trust people who nominate themselves. So even when it comes to politics and politicians, I am very distrustful. I feel that everyone who has a strong desire to nominate themselves, as part of their personality, has a shared terrible quality within themselves. To go back on topic, Danchou is not someone who actively wanted/nominated himself to become Danchou.”

Yoshihiro Togashi refers to Chrollo as Danchou because it means group leader. Chrollo never wanted to nominate himself as the leader of the criminal faction. He let the others cast their votes and decide the leader. He received the majority of their votes and thus took the role of Danchou. Moreover, the mangaka does not prefer people who nominate themselves since he is distrustful.

Hunter x Hunter Creator Follows His Personal Belief

The Hunter x Hunter creator does not get influenced by his magnum opus. He has his personal beliefs and always tries to stick to them. Choosing Chrollo Lucilfer as his favorite Phantom Troupe character is one example of him being himself. Yoshihiro Togashi prefers people who dare to work under any circumstances. During the interview, he clarified that if any decision is made against his will, he will not take it sportingly.
