The Lord of the Mysteries is not a manga or a Japanese light novel, but is one of the most famed webnovels in China.
Lord of the Mysteries tells the story of Klein Moretti, a man who ascends the steps to divinity, step by step. That might sound impressive, but it doesn’t tell you anything about who Klein Moretti is. So let us delve into the mysteries of the entity who rules them all.
Transmigrator Zhou Mingrui and the fortune ritual
The story begins with a modern-day Chinese youth. Zhou Mingrui tries a fortune ritual to attract good luck and finds himself waking up in unfamiliar surroundings. The moon outside his window is crimson, his face is completely different, and most shocking of all, he has a bullet wound in his head.
Klein Moretti (the name of the individual Zhou Mingrui takes over) is a history scholar. Klein leaves a diary detailing the horrific situation he has landed himself in. This sets the tone of horror in the story.
Being thrown into an alternate world and somehow being alive despite a fatal injury, Zhou Mingrui, the new Klein, realizes that there is something strange about the world.

Klein discovers that he is trapped in the era of the Industrial Revolution, with steam and machinery everywhere. But unbeknownst to the common people, there seem to be many mysteries. secrets and horrors hidden in this world.
He tries to attempt the good luck ritual again, only to find himself in a massive empty space above a boundless gray fog. Klein experiments and finds out that he is able to create whatever he wants in this space. This is what starts him off on his path of becoming the Lord of the Mysteries.
The mysterious Mr. Fool and the Tarot Club
Above the gray fog, Klein manifests a massive castle, a large, mottled table, and chairs. Klein realizes that the gray fog gives him special abilities. He can summon a few lucky individuals who manage to get their hands on special relics.

Klein realizes that his powers of pulling the consciousness of people into a different world make him appear extremely powerful. He puts on the pretense of being a high-ranked Beyonder. Klein uses his wit and wisdom to realize that there are potions that, when drunk, grant the consumer incredible powers.

Klein maintains his mysterious image, calling himself ‘The Fool.’ By leveraging his powers above the gray fog and his knowledge of Beyonders, Klein becomes a Beyonder himself.
Expanding his gathering into what is called the ‘Tarot Club,’ Klein Moretti experiences a lot of adventures and horrors, discovering the disturbing truths about the world itself.
Klein uses his sharp wits, strategies, and abilities to successfully realize his plans. Slowly climbing his way to godhood, Klein or Mr Fool becomes a mythical figure revered by many. Lord of the Mysteries will be a delight to watch, as Klein’s epic journey is depicted for all to see.
Lord of the Mysteries is set to be released on Crunchyroll on June 28, 2025.
