“Thank God it didn’t happen”: Tom Holland Dodged a Bullet, Madame Web Concept Art Shows Sony Almost Made Him Fight Ezekiel Sims

Tom Holland ventured into the entertainment business at a young age. Before transitioning to film, he built a career in theatre. His first significant stage role was the titular character in the West End production of the coming-of-age musical Billy Elliot the Musical in 2008. He previously starred as the best friend of the protagonist.

The turning point in Holland’s acting career came in 2012 when he worked with Naomi Watts in the disaster drama film The Impossible. Three years later, he had his breakthrough in Hollywood with his portrayal of Peter Parker and his alter-ego Marvel superhero Spider-Man.
It is a role that he has played numerous times. While fans do not seem to have gotten enough of the actor in the Spidey suit, recent Madame Web concept art featuring him is not something they seemed to be eager about.
Tom Holland Almost Starred in Madame Web
Tom Holland donned the Spidey suit for the first time in the 2016 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie Captain America: Civil War. It was the highest-grossing movie of the year with a worldwide collection of $1.1 billion against a production budget of $250 million.
So far, the Uncharted star has starred as the web-slinging superhero in half a dozen movies, the last one being Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in 2021. There have been rumors about him reprising the role in a new movie, but there is no official update about it.

On the other hand, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), added a new movie to its list, namely Madame Web. The movie focuses on the origin story of Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who has to face her past while saving three young women from the clutches of Ezekiel Sims. Sims plans to kill them to stop their transformation into Spider-Women in the future as it would threaten his existence.
Almost two months after its release, new concept art revealed (via Sebastian Meyer) for it sees Holland’s Spider-Man fighting Ezekiel Sims, portrayed by Tahar Rahim. However, these scenes were not added to the movie.
Fans Are Grateful Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Did Not End Up Appearing in Madame Web

While it has been a drought for Marvel fans of The Lost City of Z star, having him fight Ezekiel Sims in Madame Web is certainly not quite what they approve of. One fan expressed their gratefulness about it on X, writing: “THANK GOD it didn’t happen”

THANK GOD it didn’t happen… Although, it could’ve made the movie better

Here is what some others had to say:

Keep Peter Parker away from this franchise at all costs
— Guru (@AnimeGuru100) April 3, 2024

Don’t even know how this works the film isn’t even a multiverse movie and it definitely doesn’t exist under the MCU. Better that the Sony execs made a mistake with the timeline and had to scrap out the idea because wtf is this.
— Eddie (@OHMYDIAZ) April 3, 2024

This would make even less sense than the time the Vulture showed up in Morbius’s end credits scene.
— MegaDrive (@MegaDriv3) April 3, 2024

Sony just need to stop

Although most fans agree that Holland’s Peter Parker appearing in the movie would not make any sense because he was a newborn baby, some also insisted that it could have saved it from its doomed fate. It is hard to guess what the consequences would have been, but there must be a reason why such scenes were not in the movie.
Madame Web is available for streaming on Apple TV+.
