New Gen Anime King: My Hero Academia Final Episode Beats Attack on Titan With Brand New Record

With the release of the My Hero Academia finale, a new gen anime king has been crowned as it overtook the Attack on Titan finale in ratings. The official IMDb ratings for the final episodes clearly show the margins; the MHA finale episode is rated 9.6/10, whereas the AOT finale episode is rated 8.9/10.

My Hero Academia Finale Delivered What AOT Couldn’t

When comparing the two finale episodes, the My Hero Academia ending is significantly more polished and well-planned. However, the same could not be said about the Attack on Titan ending. Fans have often mentioned issues such as rushed pacing and being more exposition-reliant than visually engaging. As one fan mentioned regarding the AOT ending (on Reddit):

Personally I feel the ending is still a little disappointing and left me with a similar feeling to when I finished the manga.

Despite both anime series having extensive character lineups and lore, Attack on Titan did a significantly poorer job of tying up the loose ends and providing fans with a satisfying ending. A lot of character arc growth has been cut short due to the rush to finish the ending. On top of that, the AI controversy drew attention, just not the kind you would expect.

Meanwhile, the My Hero Academia ending was the perfect new-gen anime ending fans were looking for. Not only did the ending tie up several loose ends of the narrative, but it also carried the theme of the series till the very end. From visually impactful imagery to masterful story execution, one fan said this about the MHA ending (on X):

Strong ending to a long run. It stayed true to its core and left its mark. Respect to the whole journey.

As mentioned earlier, the My Hero Academia ending is a more polished and planned ending than most other new-generation anime series out there. Studio Bones spared no expense with Kohei Horikoshi‘s magnum opus manga series, staying true to the narrative of the story.

Additionally, when it comes to animation quality, Studio Bones does not offer any arguments for criticism, as they have always been one of the leading names in the industry. While there was earlier buzz regarding the decision not to add a bonus manga chapter, it is undeniable that the finished product is more than satisfactory.

The long-awaited 8-year journey with Deku and others finally came to an end, and it can be safely said that the ending was what we all wanted. All in all, the My Hero Academia ending essentially sets a new standard for new-gen anime series.
