Let’s Be Honest: We Will All Watch the Prequel Spinoff on the Only Character That Carried Seven Deadly Sins

After five long seasons, Seven Deadly Sins concluded in 2021. Although the series was hailed as one of its kind at its earliest, it sort of fell off during the latter seasons. However, the show supposedly made up for lost time with all its blazing glory during the last season.

The major reason behind that was, of course, Escanor, the Lion Sin of Pride being its focal point. Although his storyline unfortunately ended with his death, the literal embodiment of Sunshine made his demise worthwhile by going out in a blaze of glory.

As such, there is one thing the divided fan base seems to agree on. That is, a prequel spin-off focusing on Escanor, and how he came to be the Lion Sin of Pride.

A Seven Deadly Sins prequel spin-off about Escanor would be the best thing to happen for its legacy

While all members of the Seven Deadly Sins order had their quirks, nobody came close to being as quirky as Escanor. The Lion Sin of Pride won the fans’ hearts not only because of how powerful he was at his strongest, but also because of how weak he became at night.

His power, Sunshine, made him arguably the strongest in all the realms at noon. However, at night he became almost childlike and was even terrified of his own shadow. More than anything else, this duality called out to fans and made him one of the most beloved Sins among the order.

However, things weren’t always so rosy for him. The exiled prince of Castellio had quite the rough start in life. Unlike his friends, he was born quite frail and timid. As a result, he was not only ostracized but also abused as a kid.

Things only took a turn for the worse when his power was awakened. As fans are aware, Sunshine made him arguably the strongest in the world. This abrupt transformation terrified his family, leading them to exile him from the land.

As such, a prequel focusing on this period of his life would be amazing. Especially if it featured him traversing the land trying to find his footing while dodging the Holy Knights and mercenaries who sought either to capture or kill him for his powers.

The prequel could then delve further into the duality of his nature. Exploring his conflict of living as a God by the day while he cowers like a newborn foal in the night hiding from his predators.

It could also substantiate the plot of Escanor mastering his abilities by showing how raw and uncontrolled his initial battles could have been that left only destruction in its wake.

Until he potentially meets a mentor, maybe another fugitive or a lone Knight who had left the system behind. Or maybe a group of allies who would take him in even if only to become undefeatable in the day while they stood watch over him at night.

A Seven Deadly Sins spin-off like this could have endless possibilities even though the initial show had some questionable moments. That is exactly where the charm lies for such a show. Moreover, it would also pay a fitting homage to one of the greatest heroes the Kingdom of Liones had ever seen.

Escanor’s feat of glory in Seven Deadly Sins Season 5 proved his worth

As stated above, one of the major attractions for Escanor was his unparalleled dual existence. Even if the Lion Sin of Pride greatly equated his worth to Sunshine. As such, when Season 5 rolled around and he lost his powers, it came as a shock not only to him but also to the fans.

As per The Gamer, this is where Seven Deadly Sins peaked as it proved once and for all that he was truly a lion at heart, with or without his magical powers.

When fans saw him protecting Gil, Griamore, and Howzer by battling one of Indura’s offspring with just a short sword and wooden shield to aid him, it must have taken effort to pick their jaws up from the floor.

Although Archangel Mael arrived just in time to protect Escanor’s bloodied and bruised body, he, too, unfortunately died soon after.

Escanor showed his lionheart when he asked the dying Mael to lend him Sunshine as a last favor although he knew it would lead to his death. That is exactly what happened, before that, though, with noon soon approaching, Escanor took full advantage of his power by banishing the Demon King from Zeldris’ body.

However, when the Demon King tried to make the entire world his vessel by turning into a monstrous mountain, Escanor went back to his old hobby of leveling mountains and did just that to his foe. When after the battle his death rolled around, he went with his dignity and pride intact.

As such, a prequel showcasing what made this iconic character the way he was would possibly be one of the coolest things to happen in Anime history. Moreover, this would be a storyline fans would gladly enjoy any day of the week.

Seven Deadly Sins is streaming on Netflix.
