Teen Titans Go for Reboot in New #1 Comic Preview

Reboots and revamps seem to be a constant of modern superhero comics. Indeed, it is a running joke among DC Comics readers that the publisher resets their universe on a regular basis. This joke is embraced in the preview of Teen Titans Go! #1, which, if not biting the hand that feeds it, nibbles somewhat on the fingertips.

Written by Sholly Fisch, with art by Dario Brizuela, Teen Titans Go #1 finds the titular team making two shocking discoveries. First, that they had their own comic book. (This is a shock to Beast Boy, at least.) The second is that said comic has been cancelled, due to changing tastes and people being bored of the jokey youths. This leads them to try and revamp themselves into comic book superheroes with broader appeal to the masses.

The main cover and first five pages of the comic may be viewed below.

Teen Titans Go! #1 humorously leans into series history

There is an ironic and indeed incongruous undercurrent to the idea of these characters revamping themselves and their comic book. This is because the 2013 cartoon Teen Titans Go! was itself a revamp of the 2003 Teen Titans cartoon. Many fans of the original shunned the new series, disliking the joking tone and more exaggerated animation style. And yet the 2003 series faced similar complaints about its anime-influenced designs and use of comedy compared to the DCAU.

The rest of Teen Titans Go! #1 sees the team trying to find a new formula that might save their series. This inspires a number of parodies of other classic comic books and cartoons, ranging from modern horror manga to black-and-white indie books. In this, the comic does a fair job of modeling itself upon the show, offering humor both kids and adults can enjoy.

Teen Titans Go! #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on March 5, 2025.
