Womp Womp One Piece: Every Anime Episode With a 9.9 IMDb Score

With over 1100 episodes under its belt, One Piece is one of the biggest anime at the moment, yet none of its episodes have achieved a 9.9 IMDB score. Currently, its highest-rated episodes stand at a 9.8 rating, just an inch away from achieving the 9.9 status.

At the same time, it should be noted that several One Piece episodes did reach the 9.9 landmark but were dragged down later. There are a select few anime whose episodes still hold a 9.9 IMDB score.

Anime That Have Actually Conquered the 9.9 Hurdle

One Piece might have failed to achieve a stable 9.9 rating for its episodes, but that does not mean no other anime has achieved the same. Here is a table of anime and episodes that have received the unattainable score on IMDB:

Anime TitleEpisode with 9.9 IMDB ScoreMy Hero AcademiaSeason 8 Episode 8 – Izuku Midoriya RisingVinland SagaEpisode 24 – End of the PrologueHunter x HunterEpisode 126 – Zero × And × RoseHunter x HunterEpisode 131 – Anger × And × LightLegend of the Galactic HeroesSeason 3 Episode 24 – Dream: To See It to the EndAshita no JôEpisode 51 – Burnt-out LifeCode GeassSeason 2 Episode 25 – Re;

These episodes have left an unmatched impact on their viewers, which resulted in a near-perfect score. Most recently, My Hero Academia‘s final season episode 8 received a 9.9 score because of its brilliance.

Only a select few anime have the capacity to deliver unforgettable episodes that transcend other recent series. The 9.9 score represents the pinnacle of viewer acclaim, which is reserved for only those episodes whose sheer impact has left fans stunned.

One Piece Episodes Fall Short of Achieving 9.9 IMDB Score

The current highest-rated episodes of One Piece are episodes 377 and 1136, both of which have received a 9.8 IMDB score. The episodes that initially received a 9.9 rating later stabilized due to varied user feedback. As a long-running series, One Piece has often become a target of review-bombing.

To those to are unfamiliar with the term, review bombing is a coordinated effort from opposing fandoms who flood a specific anime or episode with negative reviews and feedback so that the original rating gets dragged down to a much lower one.

There are also plenty of One Piece extremists who have review-bombed other anime episodes, preventing them from retaining their top scores. The ratings of One Piece episodes that have managed to remain at the top highlight the anime’s resilience despite other fandoms trying to actively sabotage it.

With One Piece having a huge number of episodes, the instant post-release hype dies down quickly. Thus, recent episodes might receive an elite score, but they are also targeted by fandoms, and the user-generated reviews eventually dilute the scores.

Do you think review bombing hurts anime as a genre? Why do you think One Piece never achieved the score? Let us know in the comments below.

One Piece anime is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll in the US.
