Godzilla Minus One Could Break US Box Office Record Set by Demon Slayer: The Mugen Train
As we mentioned earlier, the Demon Slayer film received nothing but love in the US. Evidently, it became a box-office success upon its release in North America in 2021. In fact, it ended up grossing $49.5 million domestically during its theatrical run in the United States of America.
The movie became the second-highest-grossing Japanese movie in the country. While the record has stayed for a couple of years, it could be shattered by none other than Toho Studios’ Godzilla Minus One.
According to a report by ComicBook.com, Godzilla Minus One is not far from becoming the second-highest-grossing Japanese movie of all time in the United States of America.
We know Godzilla Minus One has earned $49.2 million USD domestically, and it is poised to overtake Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugen Train in a matter of days.

As per the report, it won’t take Godzilla to glide past Tanjiro and co. at the box office. After all, the movie has already grossed $49.2 million since its release back in November 2023.
However, even if the movie continues at this pace, it will still take a lot of time for Godzilla Minus One to become the highest grossing Japanese movie in the US. After all, that record is held by none other than Pokémon: The First Movie.
The 1999 film took the US box office by storm upon its release as it grossed more than $85 million USD domestically and no Japanese movie has ever come closer to breaking that record.

Is Demon Slayer Renewed For Season 4?
Godzilla Minus One may break Mugen Train’s record at the US box office, but it wouldn’t take away the popularity of the anime among the fanbase.
Despite the anime’s third season not being as good as the first two seasons, it was still considered successful. As a result, Demon Slayer has already been renewed for the fourth season.

Another good news about the fans of the anime is the fact that the show will also receive a short movie to bridge the gap between the events at the end of season 3 and before season 4 begins airing.
